A little bit about our practice

Sugarland Eye & Laser Center is the premier eye care center serving Sugar Land, southwest Houston, and the surrounding areas. Opening doors in 2005, the center takes great pride in offering the latest in ophthalmologic care and technology all in a comfortable and relaxed setting. After working in many ophthalmology clinics in the region, medical director Dr. Khokhar felt inspired to found a practice based on the ideals he felt were so important…

"There is no reason for our patients not to receive the most advanced ophthalmic care in a comfortable setting that feels like home. There is no reason for our patients to be treated in any way less than the way we treat our family. For giving us their trust, our patients deserve nothing less."

Sugarland Eye & Laser Center quickly became the regions leader in premium iLASIK services. Dr. Khokhar was one of the first LASIK providers in the area to offer this revolutionary technology. In 2010, Sugarland Eye & Laser Center established an in-house iLASIK suite to bring the most advanced space-age laser vision correction technology to the community. In 2011, Sugarland Eye & Laser Center opened a satellite office in Pearland, Texas for the convenience of patients.

What is Premium iLasik?

What is Premium i-LASIK?

If you have been waiting for the best in laser vision correction technology, it’s finally here right at Sugarland Eye & Laser Center.  The amazingly accurate and safe i-LASIK is the exceptional combination of 3 revolutionary technologies.  First, a customized treatment based on the wavefront, or the “fingerprint,” of the eye corrects the tiniest imperfections.  Second, a corneal flap is created with IntraLaser for a 100% blade-free, all-laser experience.  Finally, an unmatched treatment is completed with the VISX Star S4 IR using the platform’s exclusive 3-D eye tracking.  Sugarland Eye & Laser Center is the only LASIK center where patients will experience these premium features:

No “Bait” Pricing: Many centers “bait” patients by advertising unrealistically low LASIK prices.  However, nobody has an optical prescription that is eligible for that price.  At Sugarland Eye & Laser Center, our prices do not change according to your optical prescription.

Multiple Lasers Platforms:  Unlike LASIK centers which offer only one type of laser, Sugarland Eye & Laser Center offers many different laser technologies for our patients.  We offer laser treatments by VISX, Allegretto, and IntraLase.  Your surgeon will discuss each technology with you and guide your selection based on your unique situation.

i-LASIK:  Sugarland Eye & Laser Center is the region’s leader in providing the new revolutionary i-LASIK.  This 100% blade-free LASIK is truly customized to your individual eye’s “fingerprint.”  Other centers still use a blade during part of LASIK or offer a “customization” that is not based on your unique eyes.

True Customization:  Sugarland Eye & Laser Center offers true-custom LASIK.  Our VISX treatments are based on the unique features of your eyes. “Customization” by Allegretto is not true-customization as treatments are based on preprogrammed laboratory information.

Free warranty:  Sugarland Eye & Laser Center is so confident with the results of our premium LASIK, we offer a free limited lifetime warranty.  Other centers make you pay extra for this.  At Sugarland Eye & Laser Center, every patient gets a treatment to be confident and comfortable with.

SUGAR LAND AREA RESIDENTS CAN BENEFIT FROM LASIK EYE SURGERY ALLOWED BY NASA FOR USE ON ASTRONAUTS

Sugar Land residents considering vision correction have another reason to be confident in iLASIK, as the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) allows the new advanced, all-laser iLASIK technology for use on U.S. astronauts. The recent NASA decision was made following review of extensive military clinical data using the iLASIK Method, which showed the technology provides superior safety and excellent vision.

“Even your most-extreme lifestyle is nothing compared to being ejected from an F16 or the G-Forces of atmospheric blastoff,” said Amjad Khokhar MD, Medical Director, Sugarland Eye & Laser Center. “With today’s advanced iLASIK technologies -- which feature the use of two lasers, instead of one as with earlier forms of the procedure -- patients can be confident that they will have improved vision, but also that the procedure has proven to be extremely safe as well.”

Approved for use on consumers almost a decade ago, more than 11 million LASIK procedures have been performed to-date, making it the most-common elective surgical procedure in the U.S. But it wasn’t until iLASIK developed that NASA allowed it for use on pilots, mission and payload specialists who face extreme, physically demanding conditions in space. The all-laser LASIK, which utilizes wavefront-guided and femtosecond lasers, have also been cleared for U.S. military personnel, including most recently Air Force pilots. Sugarland Eye & Laser Center offers the highly advanced iLASIK right in their Sugar Land office.

TODAY’S ADVANCED iLASIK USES ALL-LASER TECHNOLOGY

LASIK is a two-step procedure. In advanced iLASIK, the computer guided, ultra-fast IntraLase FS (femtosecond) laser is used in the first step to create the corneal flap, virtually eliminating almost all of the most severe, sight-threatening LASIK complications related to hand-held microkeratome blades historically used to create corneal flaps. In the second step of advanced iLASIK, wavefront-guided technology maps, then custom-corrects vision based upon the unique characteristics of an individual’s eye. This sophisticated measurement provides 25 times more precision than measurements using standard methods for glasses and contact lenses, taking patients to 20/20 vision and beyond.

LASIK’S FINAL FRONTIER
Concerns about the harsh aviation environment prevented the earlier forms of LASIK from use in the military and NASA. To date, aeromedical professionals have been cautious of employing the procedure on military aviators who frequently encounter environmental extremes such as high altitude, dry air, wind blast and “G” forces. In space, these and other conditions add even higher levels of concern due to the extreme precision needed during flight and space walks.

In the U.S. laser vision correction market, iLASIK is the new standard, rapidly becoming the most widely performed laser vision correction procedure. In fact, the majority of premier ophthalmic teaching institutions, including Duke University Medical School, the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins, the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at University of Miami, and Stanford University, totaling over 16 domestic and international teaching institutions, use iLASIK to train the next generation of LASIK surgeons.

Sugarland Eye & Laser Center leads in providing premium LASIK technologies to Houston, Sugar Land, and the surrounding region. The center introduced revolutionary technologies such as i-LASIK to the region. The doctor and staff specialize in providing a compassionate and personal LASIK experience.
